Welcome to 79th Reading Scouts

The 79th Reading Scout Group is part of the wider Pang Valley District.  We have been in existence in Tilehurst for many, many years and currently operate from our purpose built HQ in Armour Hill.

Our main objective is to enable our young Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to enjoy a varied programme of activities and social events in the best surroundings we can offer.

The group accepts both boys and girls from 6 to 18 years old and at present we have approximately 160 young people throughout the sections.  We currently have two Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs, two Scout Troops and one Explorer Unit.

The weekly programmes encourage fun and friendship, challenge and adventure, personal development, citizenship, self-reliance, responsibility and decision-making, involvement and achievement.  These elements are developed through activities such as camping, craft, sport, orienteering, pioneering, hiking, cooking and community projects.

We like to involve as many parents as possible in our activites and we will always welcome any volunteer, whether it is on a weekly basis with a section or just helping our occasionally behind the scenes.

If you would like to know more about the Group please contact Martin or Karen Hobbs on 0118 9416241 or e.mail gsl@79threading.org.uk.
